While Winter is a time that some people like to stay indoors and hibernate, I say get outdoors and explore. Especially with our tips on staying warm this winter.
Don’t let the thoughts of the cold stop you from pursuing that next travel destination. If you had had a trip planned although crowds or mozzies keep you away, now is the time to go travel and you can stay warm while getting away in Winter with a few of these tips:
- Dress in layers. You can still dress to impress while staying warm in multiple layers. Puffer jackets are great as they give you greater control over what you can wear, knowing that as you move through the day and get active, you can remover a layer as your body heats up. Try to avoid sweating as this can cool your body down too much – so adding and subtracting layers is the best way to keep warm.
- Wet is a no go – if you get wet walking, throw on something dry as soon as possible to get you warm and put on a fresh pair of socks too.
- Cold feet – staying warm means wearing a beanie! Yep, anytime you are cold, pop on your favourite beanie as this is one of the fastest ways to increase your body temperature. A large percentage of your body heat escapes from your head. There are so many beanies in different styles and colours that you can match it to your outfit or support your team or charity!
“Hold onto what ever keeps you warm”
- Getting a good night’s sleep. It is always important, but more so when you are travelling, allowing you to recharge your batteries and get ready for the next day’s adventure. Think about putting a blanket under your mattress – or use two sleeping mats as the cold can come up from the ground. And also layer here as well, as you sleep your body temperature drops, add a blanket on top of your sleeping bag or doona for extra warmth
- Thermos – pack it and use it! Not only for keeping your morning coffee hot for you, it can be used for lunches on the go – think hotdogs, dim sims and even noodles. A warming snack in the afternoon can keep you out and about until dusk.
- Hot water bottles or heat packs – perfect for all ages. Place it in your bed a few minutes before to get into something warm and then snuggle with it, don’t put it at your feet as it will warm your whole body quicker than just your feet.
- Hand warmers – sometimes it takes a few little modern luxuries to make sure yu are comfortable. A couple of hand warmers in your pant pockets or in your jacket can certainly make the different for your fingers (or in your boots for your toes).
- Eating & drinking – part of any great holiday plan huh? But did you know that snacking is a great way to stay warm? The body burns calories to stay warm, so eating high fat, high protein foods keep you sustained and warmer longer!
The warmer you are the more you are included to get out and about and enjoy the great outdoors!
